The initial step in choosing a shelving system is to evaluate your storage needs. Think about the kinds of items you plan to store, including their sizes, shapes, and weights. Decide if you prefer open shelving for quick access to your items or if closed-in shelving is necessary for extra protection and security. Measure the area:
Firstly, take measurements of the length, depth and height of the area or room where you intend to set up the shelving. Avoid estimating; use a tape measure and record the dimensions accurately. Consider the ceiling height, making sure there’s enough clearance for the top shelf if storing items above the height of the shelving unit.
Tip: Rather than measuring wall to wall, take into consideration skirting boards/baseboards.

Consider how the shelves will fit in with existing furniture, architectural features like windows and doors and obstacles, such as pipes, vents, switches etc.

Sketch out a floor plan:
Creating a floor plan can greatly assist in visualising the area. By including your measurements, you can begin to determine where your shelving will go. If you intend to set up aisles, you can start figuring out the spacing between the shelves. We suggest starting with a minimum of 1.2m wide.

Installation of our industrial shelving, such as longspan shelving, gondola and RUT shelving is often considered to be a DIY project as they are designed for relatively easy assembly and in most cases, only basic tools are required. 

On the other hand, if you feel uncertain or have a large or complex project, hiring professional installers can be a great choice. They bring extensive experience and expertise to the table, ensuring that your shelving is installed safely and efficiently. They are familiar with the nuances of different shelving systems and can navigate potential challenges that may arise during the installation process.  

Rolled Upright Type Shelving is a steel shelving system consisting of modular bays with adjustable shelves. Commonly referred to as RUT Shelving. It is robust and versatile making it a great solution for many industries and applications such as; archive storage, garages and sheds, distribution centres, mechanical workshops, manufacturing facilities, offices and more.

The open design ensures easy access to stored items.

It can be configured in single or double-sided systems. Each shelf can hold up to 90kgs evenly distributed and a maximum of 800kgs per bay.

The shelf load capacity varies between the different industrial shelving systems and in some cases it is determined on the length x depth x shelf material.

Accessories can significantly enhance the shelving systems functionality.

Plastic parts bins and storage tubs are a great addition to shelving systems like longspan and RUT shelving. They help categorise and contain small or loose items, protecting them from dust and spills.

Pegboard and Louvre Panels can be attached to the sides or backing of the longspan shelving and allow hooks for hanging.

Dividers play a crucial role in ensuring that items remain in an upright position, which not only helps in keeping them organized but also prevents them from toppling over or shifting around. Our range includes mesh dividers designed for longspan shelving when paired with mesh decks, robust steel dividers for RUT Shelving, and wire dividers suitable for gondola shelving.
