Longspan Shelving

Absolutely. One of the main benefits of the Longspan system is its modular design. The beams can be adjusted in 50mm increments allowing you to customize the shelf heights as your inventory changes. Furthermore you can easily expand your storage by adding “Add-on” bays to your existing “Starter” bay sharing a common upright to save on both cost and space.

When planning your layout it is important to remember that our advertised sizes refer to the internal beam length (the usable shelf space). To ensure the unit fits in your available floor space you must account for the width of the upright frames:

Starter Bay: Add 120mm to the advertised beam length (60mm for each upright).
Add-on Bay: Add 60mm to the beam length for every additional bay you connect.

Example: If you are installing a “Starter Bay” with 1800mm beams the total footprint required on your floor is 1920mm.

Yes. We offer three primary shelf types to suit different environments:

• Particle Board: The most cost effective option for general dry storage and parts.
• Mesh Decking: Ideal for fire safety compliance as it allows water from sprinklers to pass through and provides excellent ventilation.
• Galvanised Steel Shelves: The most durable option for heavy duty applications involving oils chemicals or high impact use.

For maximum safety and stability we always recommend anchoring your Longspan frames to the floor especially in high traffic commercial environments. While the system is incredibly stable the Australian Standards for shelving often require floor fixings to prevent accidental tipping if the unit is bumped or unevenly loaded.
All shelving 3000mm high or above must be anchored to the floor for added stability.

For the system to be structurally sound we recommend a minimum of two shelf levels per bay. These shelves act as the lateral bracing for the uprights. Having at least one shelf near the bottom and one near the top ensures the frame remains rigid and prevents any “parallelogram” effect or swaying.

All Longspan bays purchased online come with 4 levels as standard.

You can purchase additional shelf levels separately.

A First Bay (or Starter Bay) is a complete, standalone shelving unit that comes with two vertical upright steel frames and your chosen shelf levels.

An Add-on Bay comes with only one upright frame because it is engineered to interlock and share an upright with an existing bay.

If you are building a continuous run of shelving, you only need one First Bay; all subsequent sections can be cost-effective Add-on Bays.

Yes. Because our Longspan system is fully modular we offer dedicated 2-Tier and 4-Tier Longspan Workbenches built from the same heavy duty components as our shelving.

A unique advantage of this system is that a workbench can be treated as an “Add-on” bay to an existing Longspan starter unit. This allows you to create a seamless run of storage that transitions directly into a functional workspace sharing a common upright to save on both cost and floor space. This integrated approach is perfect for picking and packing lines where you need high density storage immediately adjacent to a work surface.

Yes, assembly is straightforward and designed as a simple DIY process. For your convenience, our vertical upright frames come pre-assembled, meaning you do not have to bolt the bracing together on-site.

The installation process requires completely zero tools and can be completed by following three basic steps:

1. Stand the pre-assembled frames upright.
2. Clip the horizontal step beams into the tapered frame slots at your desired heights.
3. Drop your chosen shelf insert material (particle board, mesh, or galvanised panels) directly into the step beams.

While smaller bays can often be set up by a single person, we highly recommend a two-person assembly for safety, efficiency, and ease of handling when standing up taller frames or clipping in longer spans.

Because industrial longspan components are heavy and bulky, orders are shipped fully palletized via commercial freight carriers.

• If you have a forklift on-site: Select Business Delivery, which uses our commercial freight carriers at checkout. A forklift must be available at the delivery site to safely unload the freight vehicle.
• If you do not have a forklift: You can select the “Home Delivery” option at checkout. Our system will automatically calculate and apply a flat hydraulic tailgate delivery service rate to your order, allowing the driver to lower the pallet to the ground safely without a forklift.

Tailgate delivery is unavailable for any components exceeding 2.1 meters in length, as they cannot safely fit on standard tailgate vehicle lifters.

Because of this freight restriction, the automated “Home Delivery” tailgate service cannot be used if your order contains:
2400mm High Upright Frames
2100mm or 2400mm Long Horizontal Beams
