What is a mezzanine floor?

A mezzanine floor is an intermediate floor (or floors) in a building which is an open structure, allowing for space in and around a free-standing floor. Mezzanines can be installed in high-ceilinged spaces such as warehouses, open planned buildings and large industrial sheds. These structures can either be permanent or semi-permanent, but usually are free-standing, and can be dismantled. These industrial floors are supported by either structural steel columns and components, racks, or shelves.

Depending on the dimensions and usage of the products, different materials may be used for the decking and flooring. Some industrial mezzanines may also include enclosed, paneled office space or rooms.

Racking Type 

Racking based mezzanine floors are constructed with pallet racking and are primarily used when the entire area of the underside of the floor is required for shelving. The pallet racking enables shelves to be installed at many intervals to increase and maximize storage space. The size of the bays can be made with any available pallet racking beam, as long as the load capacity permits.

The height of the mezzanine floor can be put at any number of heights as the pitch of the pallet racking posts is set at 76.2mm increments.

Staircases and handrail can be added to the floor where required.

Structural 

Structural mezzanine floors provide you with the extra space and storage needed for the warehouse or dedicated workplace. Made with galvanized steel, these flooring uses decks, handrails, and shelving systems to create an extra floor in addition to a two story storage facility. Some of our clients have seen their storage capacity double by installing a mezzanine solution.
